One of my favorite affirmations is “When one door closes, another door opens.” I love this affirmation so much, thatI used it as the title for my first meditation in the book Words That Heal. Here is the meditation in it’s entirety, along with the healing affirmations that accompany it.

When One Door Closes, Another Door Opens

When one door closes, another door opens. Patience, perseverance and persistence.

There comes a time along the spiritual journey when something we cherish must come to an end. Perhaps a meaningful relationship is terminated. Perhaps some opportunity we sought suddenly becomes unavailable. Whatever the circumstances, we feel shut out from a good that we desired.

When this occurs, do not despair, for the Infinite has not forgotten you. You have experienced loss for one reason and one reason only—so that you may receive an even greater good.

Nature abhors a vacuum. What is true in the physical world has its parallel in the spiritual world. You can’t release something without gaining something in return. The universe longs to fill your void, replacing sadness with joy, loss with gain, death with rebirth.

What then is your task when a door is closed before you? First, release your attachment to the way it was, or the way you wished it to be. Your Higher self has prepared a far greater gift for you. Then affirm to yourself, “When one door closes another door opens. I expectantly look forward to the good that awaits me.”

Be patient, for it will come in the twinkling of an eye.

Affirmations

1. I release the past and eagerly look toward the good that awaits me.

2. I release my prior expectations and eagerly look toward the good that awaits me.

3. I have faith that I will be guided to my next step.

4. Although I grieve for what I lost, I have faith that a greater good lies before me.

5. A new door in my life stands open before me.

6. Your own

Words To Consider

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

Psalm 126.5

Best Affirmations for Guidance

Douglas Bloch · October 25, 2014 ·

In this post, I want to talk about affirmations for guidance. The times they are a changing. During this period of uncertainty, many of us are seeking reliable ways to receive guidance and direction in our lives. But with our familiar signposts in chaos and turmoil, there is only one certain way to obtain the guidance we seek—go within.

In seeking guidance, you are really asking the universe to “show you the way.” A lovely way to request this direction is to affirm , “I want to do what God wants me to do” This statement will cause your higher wisdom to communicate its intention to you. Then, your task is simple—listen to and follow its instructions.

Sometimes what you receive will not always be what you (your ego) wanted to hear. Don’t let this bother you; your intuition, not your ego, knows what’s best for you. Many times, your instructions will not “make sense” at the time. Again, don’t be concerned; your intuition doesn’t function through logic, but through what “feels” right.

When you receive guidance, you will probably be told to take a single step. Rather than being shown the final out-come, you will be guided each step along the way. This is where you must exercise your faith. Trust that you are being lead in the right direction and that everything will work out. The universe wants you to succeed. The universe wants the best for you.

As you follow this procedure, your guidance will become clearer and more defined. While the outer world continues to rock to and fro, you will retain that inner calm and security that comes from following that Higher Power within you.

Affirmations

1. I want to do what the Universe wants me to do.

2. I want to do what my Higher Self wants me to do.

3. The Divine Presence fills my body, mind, heart and soul. From this place of higher knowing, I see all things clearly.

4. God’s wisdom illumines me, casting light on my path.

5. All things are working together for good in my life.

6. Your own

Words To Consider

“Instead of asking Him to give  the things for which we pray,
All that we need to ask from God is this:
Show us the way.”

James Bowman

“The Lord is nigh to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth.”

Psalm 145:18

An Affirmation For Getting Through a Depressive Episode

Douglas Bloch · May 22, 2014 ·

I am writing to share an affirmation for getting through a depressive episode that was a lifesaver for me. Years ago I was experiencing a hellish episode of agitated depression. My pain was not only unbearable, it felt like it was never going to end. Just when I was about to give up, I remembered an affirmation that someone had given me, “When going to hell, don’t stop!”

Image

What does this mean? It means, that because nothing lasts forever, if you keep persevering, eventually something will shift and you can emerge from the dark night of the soul. So, if you find yourself going through the valley of the shadow of death, remember–you don’t have to pitch your tent there. If you keep moving forward, one day at a time, and ask for help, you will come out the other side. I can’t tell you how the resurrection will happen, but I can assure you that it will. Remember, the darkest hour is always just before the dawn.

When at last I emerged from my hell of depression in the fall of 1997, I decided to write a memoir about how I survived. And the title that came to me, is When Going Through Hell .. Don’t Stop! The book is a survival guide for anyone, not just for those who are depressed, but for anyone who finds himself in unbearable pain that appears to have no end. If you or a loved one could use the support that this book brings, you can can take a look at a copy by clicking below.

In the meantime, I leave you with these words taken from the the book’s last page:

If you are on the edge of the abyss, don’t jump.
If you are going through hell, don’t stop.
As long as you are breathing, there is hope.
As long as day follows night, there is hope.
Nothing stays the same forever.
Set an intention to heal,
reach out for support,
and you will find help.

I wish you the best in your mental health recovery and I hope that you will consider exploring the book, When Going Through Hell .. Don’t Stop! If you would like to watch You Tube video in which I talk about my experience, please click on the above image.

Best Affirmations for Finding Your Purpose

Douglas Bloch · April 27, 2014 ·

Tulip fieldHow can you go about finding your purpose? Everyone has a dream. Everyone has a purpose or mission, something specific he is called to do. You are on this earth for a reason. Although you can temporarily hide from yourself, you can never lose your connection to your purpose. It is always with you, beckoning to be uncovered. You just need to listen and let it speak to you.

When you do decide to follow your dream, be prepared for resistance. The old beliefs and messages from the past that say it cannot be done will come rushing to the surface. How will you respond to these voices of fear and doubt? Will you  allow them  to immobilize you? Or will you tell them who is in charge and move forward in spite of your fears?

Despite the objections of everyone around her, Augusta pursued her dream of becoming an Olympic track athlete. At first a series of disappointing performances seemed to confirm the predictions of her family and friends. But then she won a race. The improvement continued until a number of first-place finishes gave her a spot on the Olympic team.

No matter what the obstacles, choose to be true to  your purpose and let it guide and direct your way. Your destiny is beckoning you. It is time to heed the call.

Affirmations

 1. I am aligned with my higher purpose.

 2. I am in touch with my destiny.

 3. I hear my inner voice and heed the call.

 4. I am living a life of purpose and passion.

 5. I follow my dreams and make them reality.

 6. Create your own

Words To Consider

“The reasonable man encounters circumstances and adapts himself to them.
The unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt circumstances to himself.
All progress depends upon the unreasonable man.”

George Bernard Shaw

Best Affirmations for Following Your Heart

Douglas Bloch · March 17, 2014 ·

Consider the following story of misplaced priorities. While hiking in the wilderness, I met a man whose T-shirt carried the following message: “He who dies with the most toys, wins.”

As I pondered those words, I was sure that the author meant the opposite of what he said. No one on his death bed ever stated, “I wish I had spent more time at the office.” We were put on this earth not to accumulate “toys,” but to reap the gifts of the spirit.  These gifts come to us when we dedicate our lives to something greater than ourselves-a path of service in the world, the raising of a loving family, the creation of beauty through art, or any passion that inspires one.

Having lived in this manner, you can look back over your  life with a real sense of fulfillment. By following the path of peace, love and joy, you will discover your true treasure-one that transcends death itself.

He who dies, having followed his heart, wins.

Affirmations for Following Your Heart

1. Joy is my compass.

2. As I follow the path of my heart, I discover  my true treasure.

3. I release my unnecessary attachments to people, things, or situations in the world.

4. My spiritual growth is  my top priority.

5. When I am being true to the highest and best in me, the rest of my life falls into place.

6. Create our own

Words To Consider

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth
where moth and dust doth corrupt,
where thieves break through and steal;
but lay up treasures in heaven …
 for where your treasure is,
there will be your heart also.”

Matthew 6:19-21
